Debra Hoffmaster
ARTIST'S STATEMENT: In designing jewelry, I try to highlight gemstones and the metalwork to create an integrated piece. I may use piercing, folding, fusing and forging to give surface texture to the jewelry. My love of nature is apparent in many designs, but especially my labradorite "story" pendants and leaf series. Function is also important to me as I like all of my pieces to be as pleasant to wear as they are to view.
I am largely self taught. My graduate education in science (PhD level) has given me the skills necessary to assimilate technical information, experiment and apply it to my work. In addition, I have taken many workshops in my area of interest.
Since 2000, I have been self-employed, producing jewelry that I exhibit at fine art fairs. I am currently the metalcraft moderator for the Toledo Gem and Rockhound Club located in Toledo Botanical Garden.
